In-house Alterations
Wedding gowns are not meant to be ready-to-wear and do require alterations. Our alterations services are reserved for brides that purchase their wedding gown through Fantasy Bridal ONLY. Pricing is $50/hour and quotes can generally be given in the moment in wearing your favorite dress (if availability allows).
Using us for alterations is subject to availability and the time of year (typically April-October). Because we do offer this service, during busy season we do book up quickly. That being said, we have curated a large list of outside seamstresses if you are unable to use us (pricing varies and we are not responsible for their work done).
Our seamstresses have been hand-picked and are experts in their field. They are able to do all basic gown alterations such as a hem, bustle, shoulder and fit issues. We have high standards and guarantee our in-house work. Fittings are done in-store with our fitting specialist.
The appointment typically takes 45-60 minutes. We do require you to bring in the exact shoes, bra and/or slip if you plan on wearing these items on your wedding day. This will help us fit your gown in the best way possible. We require half payment at the time of the fitting and the balance at your second fitting/pick-up appointment before it can be taken home.
With your alterations, you receive a FREE pressing and detailing of your wedding gown. We will iron, spot-check, bead-check and clip threads. Even if you do not use us for alterations, we will offer the press and detail before the gown leaves our store. We want to unsure all our brides leave with a perfect gown.
All custom work such as: adding sleeves, neckline changes, etc. will be referred out to our outside seamstress list for the time being. This will allow us to help more brides in-house that need basic alterations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Measurements are taken to be able to choose the best size. Gowns ordered are based off the vendor size chart and are not custom to you. (Sizes can vary greatly from vendor to vendor.) We discuss with you the best size option, not only on measurements, but also based on fabrics and dress shape. Most brides do not typically fit the size chart perfectly. You could be a size 6 in the bust and an 8 in the waist, we would recommend the 8 for the waist and alter down the bust to fit.
Alterations are priced separately. Each dress and body shape are different, no two dresses require the same amount of work.
We highly suggest scheduling your "Save the Date" on the day you purchase your wedding gown. We typically need 4-6 weeks to do alterations and the "Save the Date" saves your spot and guarantees a done date. If you elect to do bridal photos prior to your wedding date, this needs to be taken into consideration.
No, Fantasy Bridal does not require you to get your alterations with us, you are able to choose your own seamstress. We can provide a list of seamstresses in and around the Salt Lake Valley if needed. We recommend meeting with a few different seamstresses to make sure you feel confident they can fulfill your needs.
