Your big day is around the corner, and it’s time to find the perfect dress! This is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning—you get to dress up and discover what you’ll wear on your special day. With so many things to consider, having a supportive group with you is essential. It can be overwhelming to decide who to bring, as everyone wants to be part of this moment. But some people will be more helpful than others. So, how do you choose? Here are some do’s and don’ts for deciding who to bring to your bridal appointment.

Do: Bring people who will help you make decisions.

Think about the people you go to for everything—whether it’s advice on what job to take, who to date, or even what shoes to wear. These are the people you should have with you during your appointment. If you know you couldn’t make this decision without your mom, then don’t go shopping without her! Brides often tell us they were "just looking" before bringing everyone, only to find their dream dress without their loved ones there to share the moment. Bring those whose opinions you trust and who are supportive, so you feel confident when you make your choice.

Don’t: Bring people with overpowering opinions.

We all know that one person who, despite good intentions, tends to steamroll everyone else’s views. This is not the person to bring to your bridal appointment, even if they’re family. You want this experience to be about your vision for your day—not about what someone else thinks you should wear. A highly opinionated group can lead to regret and confusion, especially if you’re left with a dress you’re not absolutely in love with. Constructive input is valuable, but overpowering opinions have no place at your appointment.

Do: Bring a focused group.

Your group should understand your vision and support what you’re looking for. They should know the difference between your excitement and any hesitation, without needing constant explanations. A focused group will stay engaged with you—not glued to their phones or engrossed in side conversations. Your dress appointment is all about you, so make sure they’re attentive and helpful throughout your journey.

Don’t: Bring young kids or other distractions.

A bridal store is generally not a place for young children. Expensive dresses, veils, and jewelry can be very tempting to little ones but could result in costly damages. Children also often struggle to sit still through a long appointment, which can be distracting. Other distractions, such as guests who are on their phones, uninterested in your wedding, or have other commitments that shorten your time, should also be left behind. Make this experience fully focused on you!

Do: Keep your group small.

Small groups are ideal, especially if you’ve chosen focused decision-makers. With a small, trusted group, it’s easier to ask for advice and receive input without feeling overwhelmed. Many bridal boutiques have limited space, so a small, intimate group keeps the process comfortable and efficient.

Don’t: Bring a large group.

Large groups can be overwhelming. While you might want your mom, three sisters, grandma, and entire bridal party of six, it’s almost impossible to weigh everyone’s opinions equally. A large group can mean too many voices, opposing views, and background conversations, which can add unnecessary stress during this big decision-making moment.

Do: Have fun!

This is supposed to be a positive, uplifting experience. Enjoy the process—it can be truly special if you let it be!

Don’t: Let yourself get overwhelmed—you will find the right dress.

Don’t let others dampen your experience. If you start feeling overwhelmed, take a break and come back to it with a fresh perspective. Whether you’re shopping with loved ones or solo, remember that you will find an amazing dress. So get out there, and happy shopping!
