Trying on wedding dresses is one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process. You get to gather a few special people in your life to watch you try on beautiful gowns until you find the one you want to wear on the biggest day of your life. There is a lot to do before you reach that "yes" moment, so it’s best to go into your bridal appointments prepared!

Research Beforehand

While you probably won’t find the wedding dress on Pinterest, it's a good idea to do some window shopping online before your appointment. Looking at photos will help you see what's available in stores, and you may discover something similar to what you envision. Even if you don’t know exactly what you want, having a starting point is a great way to begin!

Bring a Supportive Crowd

When you go shopping, bring only those who are helpful to your vision. Make sure your group is supportive and engaged in the process. Group members who are bored or not your biggest fans will only detract from your decision and make it harder to have a good experience—or a magical "yes" moment.

Trust Your Consultant

The people who help style you do this every day, and they are professionals at selecting wedding dresses. Trust them! You don’t have to purchase from them, but let them guide you through the process. Communicate your wants and needs, and they can help you find some truly amazing dresses.

Have an Open Mind

Some brides go into wedding dress shopping thinking they know exactly what they want and just need to search hard enough for it, but sometimes that’s not the case. Go into your appointment with an open mind—you might end up finding something amazing. Many brides end up with a dress that’s the complete opposite of what they thought they wanted. In fact, some would never have tried on the dress they end up with if their consultant hadn’t recommended it. Keeping an open mind will make your appointment more enjoyable and will make it easier to embrace the experience, ultimately making it simpler to say "yes."

Saying "yes" to the dress is something many brides truly look forward to, and it can be a beautiful experience. It takes effort to get there, but if you're willing to open up and put in that effort, you can make wedding dress shopping a fun and memorable experience rather than a stressful one.
